Best Tuna day in Cabo ever?

Date: 12/28/2016

Yesterday took us all by surprise; we got a call late in the day, when offices were closing, from somebody at the dock saying that a massive tuna, perhaps a record, had been brought in aboard the 65 FT Viking, “Santana”. We rushed down to the scale to verify the information and saw what indeed a huge tuna was hanging up. This boat had their own electronic scale, but needed to charge it, which gave us time to chat. We spoke with Jesse Santana who owns the boat and was fishing with his three sons, Jesse Jr., Joseph and Jacob. It was twenty one year old Joseph who had hooked the fish. They had headed out towards the Finger Bank and were after marlin, the boys were on the bow casting live mackerel as the frigate birds dove, indicating the presence of feeding fish.

2016 Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot

Date: 11/5/2016

This year marked the 18th anniversary of what is the largest tuna tournament in the world and of course where else would it be held but Cabo San Lucas. The turnout was huge this year with 168 teams and 612 anglers registered, the second largest field in the tournament’s history. Boats ranged from humble pangas to sleek state of the art 80 ft plus Viking yachts, all vying for a chance at the large tuna known to inhabit the waters off of Cabo and almost $750,000 in prize money. This tournament is not only the best attended on the tournament calendar but also the best value for money and the most fun. Teams return year after year, but its not just about the money they can win, there is a definite warmth and camaraderie not felt at other competitions. It’s as much about the people and their stories as it is about the money

Team Quiteña Scoops Over 2million Dollars in the Bisbee’s Black & Blue

Date: 10/24/2016

The most famous fishing tournament in the world, the Bisbee’s Black and Blue, came to a close this Saturday with an awards ceremony and dinner party for participants of the 2016 edition. As always, the tournament was full of excitement, although not so much on the first day of fishing, which saw no qualifying fish (300lbs and up) brought to scale. But with no qualifying fish comes a benefit, if a team brought in a big enough fish on days two or three. It would be worth more money in prizes, if they’d entered the daily jackpots for all days. In essence the total purse of $3,511,900 million dollars, is split up between who ever caught fish on the subsequent days.

Bisbee Offshore Tournament, took place this weekend with $773,000 in prize money up for grabs by a field of 108 teams. The two day event always takes place the weekend before the main even, Bisbee Black and Blue, and has always been known as the “little Bisbee”, but it can hardly be called that any longer. This is a good tournament to fish as the entry fees are less than the main event, lots of boats entering, the purses are getting bigger every year and with dorado and tuna categories, there is a good chance of placing
