Pisces Fishing Reports
Fishing Reports Date: 4/30/2017
This week was a mix, with some days being very good for striped marlin, other days seeing yellowfin tuna, and still other days produced wahoo or even yellowtail. We had an increase up to 30% of boats catching billfish this week, most of these being striped marlin out at the Cabrillo seamount. The Pisces Tracy Ann had a successful day for some anglers visiting from Austin, Texas. They managed to catch and release four striped marlin around 130-150lbs on caballito live bait, and got a nice 40lbs wahoo also at the Cabrillo seamount. The Pisces Ruthless managed a nearly identical day, however they had three striped marlin caught and released and a very nice 60lbs wahoo landed on a green/yellow lure at the Cabrillo seamount for some anglers out of California. The Pisces Tag Team switched things up a bit and had three striped marlin caught and released as well as twelve yellowfin tuna for some anglers from Costa Mesa, California.

This week we saw some days with great marlin catches while others days were better for inshore. As last week we were catching yellowfin tuna, and now this week it seems like they moved out of the area with none being landed. However, to make up for it we had a great variety of inshore fishes, we had: red snapper, skipjack, triggerfish, sierra mackerel, ladyfish, red snapper and grouper, as well as mako and hammerhead sharks (released). Most of the fishing took place either at the Cabrillo seamount or the 11:50 spot, while those targeting inshore species went up along the Pacific side. The Pisces Tracy Ann captained by Julio Castro was our top marlin boat this week, catching and releasing. . .

A catch success rate of 86% this week saw a wide range of different fish species. The beginning of the week saw boats either going to the 11:50 Spot looking for marlin or staying inshore fishing on the Pacific side. While the second half of the week saw boats hitting up a few different spots for striped marlin and yellowfin tuna (making a reappearance).

We had fairly good fishing this week, with 74% of all boats that went out landing some kind of fish, mostly we saw inshore fish being landed. The most common smaller game fish that Pisces boats caught this week were: sierra mackerel, red snapper, wahoo, amberjack, ladyfish, grouper, skipjack, sea bass, pompano and even the odd mako shark. Although the most notable story this week is the return of the striped marlin bite; we mostly saw boats landing them around the 95 and 11:50 spots.
