An extremely busy week in Cabo with the W.O.N Jackpot Tuna Tournament going on, which we shall write a separate report on. It was really nice to see people & sponsors new to the area that raved about the Cabo fisher and told us they travel all over the world and that there is nothing like Cabo, so let’s all keep up the good work and keep protecting our sportfish. The marlin are starting to show up, despite reports that they are not at Mag Bay, we saw our catch rate start to edge up slightly, with twenty four percent of boats catching striped marlin or sailfish, but then again the water temperature is still warm as is the weather overall – striped marlin tend to favor water around 70 F.

It seems that blue marlin season is upon us, hot weather makes them show up. We started out the week with a bang and as reported earlier in our blog a 722 lb (official weight) was weighed in aboard Pisces 46 ft Bertram “Attitude Adjustment”, the fish was found 11 miles straight out from Cabo and was this groups fourth fish of the day, after two sailfish and a dorado.

722 lbs Blue Marlin caught aboard the 46ft Attitude Adjustment with Captain Edgar Rentería. Angler Dave Smith, from Atlanta caught anything close was a 55l lb'er twenty five years ago at Walkers Cay, Bahamas.

BILLFISH: A surprise this week was the number of sailfish, surpassing those of striped marlin; several boats had two and three each as well as smaller game. Weather was again hot in Cabo but as a general rule of thumb, hot weather produces great catches – in fact every boat we sent out caught fish of some sort.
