Pisces Fishing Reports

This week saw two Bisbee’s tournaments hit town, with the Los Cabos Offshore, and the world famous Black & Blue. The top team was Quiteña, from Tampico, Tamaulipas on Mexico’s Gulf Coast; angler Julio Fernandez (whom Pisces exclusively interviewed), brought in a 534lbs black marlin on the second day of the tournament. Although we will be covering the tournament story separately in its own article, so that we can focus on the spectacular fishing that yet again has been going on during our regular fishing trips.

This week saw the first big tournament of the season in Cabo San Lucas. The Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, sponsored by the local hotel association, ran from October 11th to the 15th was in its 17th year. And saw John DeDominic as the unofficial winner of the tournament. John landed a beautiful 378lbs black marlin on the second day of the three-day event that put him in the top slot. He told us “we were strictly targeting black marlin, by fishing the shallows. We were all alone on the Cortez side, we don’t like to fish near other boats. It’s said be a hero or zero”. By choosing to fish this way John was definitely the hero of the tournament.

We’re sounding like a broken record, however, that’s a good thing when it comes to our excellent fishing conditions as of late. Especially since tournament season is right upon us. If next week is anything like this one, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament could see some exciting competition, which runs from the 11th to the 15th of October this year. We saw many, many boats catch multiple marlin and billfish almost everyday this week, far too many to include them all in this report.

We saw some nice catches of billfish this week, with smaller sized blues, striped marlin and sailfish all making an appearance, as well as the odd black marlin. The Pisces Listo, captained by Benito Agundez, caught and released a striped marlin and a sailfish on the 25th. They also landed a wahoo of about 52lbs, for some anglers from Delaware; a very nice day indeed.
