What an impressive week of fishing, with almost 100% success rate from our crews! Only 5 out of 107 boats did not catch fish this week, and those that did find luck outdid themselves, with numerous catches and different species brought in per boat. The billfish are back with a bang, mainly striped and some blues with sailfish showing up again as well; dorado numbers continue strong and tuna have diminished only a bit. Other species caught have been wahoo, rooster fish and amberjack, with a few scattered sharks landed too.

This week we saw the end of the Bisbees Offshore and the start of the Bisbees Black and Blue. With a pot of around 3 million, the stakes were very high to find a fish over 300lbs. Many of our boats entered in both these tournaments, so we must note that although the numbers would seem to reflect that fishing was not that good, it is moreso that many boats were specifically targeting large black or blue marlin only and did not find them. Other boats that were not in the tournament fared quite well at catching smaller striped marlin and blues as well as dorado and tuna, with the scattered wahoo or roosterfish.
The big tuna this week was caught by anglers aboard the 31ft Rebecca, captained by Jose Ramon Alucano. With the WON Tuna Tournament just around the corner, from November 1st to 4th, these are some nice indications that the big fish are out there, and the tournament should be a good one! Anglers from California caught the 229.5 lbs yellowfin tuna on a purple lure 30 miles to the 140 Spot.

This week saw the start of two of our tournaments this season, first off, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament and now, ongoing, the Bisbees Offshore Tournament.
A few of our boats entered the tournament, which saw 43 teams in total. We were glad to see our 38ft C Rod winning 1st Place in the Tuna Daily Jackpot division, with angler Bryce Schell from Canada landing a 146.80 pound yellowfin tuna.
As for non-tournament news, the fishing this week still saw many dorado catches per boat, as seems to be the trend this month, with the larger marlin starting to trickle in (as of course is influenced by anglers and captains specifically targeting these fish). Tuna were mainly small, except for our C Rod’s winning tuna and another 40+ pounder. Other species caught were mainly shark, a few roosterfish, and a few wahoo.

Again this week, it’s dorados galore! But, we have seen an increase in blue marlin as well.. This is good news as we have billfish tournament season right around the corner! In other catches, still reeling in some tunas, although small, and wahoos have continued to show up as well. Quite a few thresher sharks have not only been caught this week, but have also been keeping anglers on their toes as they have been trying to steal the numerous dorado being reeled in.

Overall catch success rate of 84% - first black marlin of the season, double header on blue marlin, tons of dorado.

BILLFISH: So far 2017 is shaping up to be a fantastic blue marlin year, with plenty of fish in the 150 to 250 LB class and several landed over the 300 LB mark. After a couple of weeks of tropical storms and port closure that took nine days out of the month, weather has changed with a distinctive cooling in the air and time is ripe for a variety of fish. Pisces La Brisa a 31 ft. Bertram, kicked off the action with an impressive 400 LB blue marlin caught

This week saw some great catches in Cabo San Lucas, with a surge in blue marlin catches and some nice tuna too aboard Pisces boats.
Fishing Reports Date: 8/31/2017
We had an amazing week of summer fishing with 96% of boats landing fish. Most of the action was seen with consistent yellowfin tuna and dorado catches, as well as seeing some wahoo and various species of billfish. Most of the fishing remained on the Pacific side throughout the first half of the week, then switching towards Punta Gorda and the 11:50 Spot at the end of the week.

A great week of fishing with all but a few boats catching fish in the whole week! Still seeing many boats landing double digits of tuna, scattered blues, stripers and sailfish, with dorado numbers picking way up.
