Striped marlins are still making a return and were the main feature this week, 79% of all Pisces boats caught fish. Inshore gamefish made up the bulk of catches this week, with many boats landing roosterfish in the 10-45lbs range.

This week we saw a fairly good catch success rate for the boats that went out, the week started with just two boats and then on the 7th and 8th we had a port closure due to strong wind conditions, which lead to rough seas. Striped marlin made up the bulk of the fish encountered by Pisces crews this week, with some inshore fish, such as: yellowtail, roosterfish, jack crevalle, grouper and red snapper, as well as the odd wahoo.
Fishing Reports Date: 5/10/2017
This week we saw some declines in our catch success rate, with some days being quite good fishing, and others not so much. However, those who caught fish had a nice little variety of inshore fish, as well as striped marlin mostly. The main species caught inshore by Pisces boats this week were ladyfish, red snapper, roosterfish, yellowtail, skipjack, jack crevalle, and sierra mackerel (as well as the odd wahoo offshore). Top boat this week in terms of marlin catches was the Pisces Bill Collector, captained by Juan Carlos Lopez, they managed to catch and release. . .

This week saw a complete turnaround and went offshore, we’ve been talking about the great inshore fishing that we’ve been having for about the last month or so. Now it seems that the striped marlin bite is starting to come back. Boats were mostly offshore between San Jose and Cabo San Lucas at the 11:50 Spot and the Cabrillo seamount, chasing after striped marlin. We had an amazing day on the 22nd with 42 striped marlin released (100% of all marlin caught), most boats landed multiple marlin catches on caballito live bait, from anywhere between 3-5 striped marlin being landed per boat.
Fishing Reports Date: 4/30/2017
This week was a mix, with some days being very good for striped marlin, other days seeing yellowfin tuna, and still other days produced wahoo or even yellowtail. We had an increase up to 30% of boats catching billfish this week, most of these being striped marlin out at the Cabrillo seamount. The Pisces Tracy Ann had a successful day for some anglers visiting from Austin, Texas. They managed to catch and release four striped marlin around 130-150lbs on caballito live bait, and got a nice 40lbs wahoo also at the Cabrillo seamount. The Pisces Ruthless managed a nearly identical day, however they had three striped marlin caught and released and a very nice 60lbs wahoo landed on a green/yellow lure at the Cabrillo seamount for some anglers out of California. The Pisces Tag Team switched things up a bit and had three striped marlin caught and released as well as twelve yellowfin tuna for some anglers from Costa Mesa, California.

This week we saw some days with great marlin catches while others days were better for inshore. As last week we were catching yellowfin tuna, and now this week it seems like they moved out of the area with none being landed. However, to make up for it we had a great variety of inshore fishes, we had: red snapper, skipjack, triggerfish, sierra mackerel, ladyfish, red snapper and grouper, as well as mako and hammerhead sharks (released). Most of the fishing took place either at the Cabrillo seamount or the 11:50 spot, while those targeting inshore species went up along the Pacific side. The Pisces Tracy Ann captained by Julio Castro was our top marlin boat this week, catching and releasing. . .
Fishing Reports Date: 4/9/2017
A catch success rate of 86% this week saw a wide range of different fish species. The beginning of the week saw boats either going to the 11:50 Spot looking for marlin or staying inshore fishing on the Pacific side. While the second half of the week saw boats hitting up a few different spots for striped marlin and yellowfin tuna (making a reappearance).
Fishing Reports Date: 4/1/2017
We had fairly good fishing this week, with 74% of all boats that went out landing some kind of fish, mostly we saw inshore fish being landed. The most common smaller game fish that Pisces boats caught this week were: sierra mackerel, red snapper, wahoo, amberjack, ladyfish, grouper, skipjack, sea bass, pompano and even the odd mako shark. Although the most notable story this week is the return of the striped marlin bite; we mostly saw boats landing them around the 95 and 11:50 spots.
Fishing Reports Date: 3/25/2017
Fishing continued to be good this week with 82% of Pisces boats landing fish; they were mostly of the inshore variety. Our top species this week for inshore were: sierra mackerel, red snapper, grouper, amberjack, roosterfish, yellowtail, ladyfish, skipjack, and jack crevalle. Most of the boats ended up heading to spots on the Pacific side, however, fishing at the 11:50 spot yielded the only marlin catches this week, all of them being striped marlin near 150lbs. On the 22nd the

We had great catches this week, with many species of inshore fish in large numbers making an appearance. This week, the “other” category (75% catch success rate) was populated with: sierra mackerel, red snapper, sea bass, grouper, pompano, yellowtail, ladyfish, roosterfish; as well as thresher, hammerhead and mako sharks. Since most of these aren’t too big, they make the perfect fish for the whole family to target. We would also note that there have been reports of big wahoo catches out of San Jose, which perfectly represents our variable fishing as the seasons change. With that being said, the Pisces Bill Collector managed to break the pelagic slump this week, landing a 280lbs. . .
