We have a lot to report this week! As some of you may know, Pisces Sportfishing turned FORTY this year and to celebrate we have decided to give back to all of the people who have helped us make it this far. We also saw the fishing pick up again this week with a great striped marlin bite out at the Finger Banks with up to 17 striped marlin caught in released in one day and BIG tunas. We caught three yellowfin over 150 lbs this week! And to top it off, we had plenty of dorado, a nice wahoo and spearfish too. So to celebrate our 40the Anniversary, First of all, we thought of our anglers, and put together an awesome GIVEAWAY. You can still enter via social media, on Facebook or Instagram. Any of our anglers can share their story with a few pictures or video and be entered in the Giveaway to win roundtrip airfare to Cabo for two, accommodation and of course a day of fishing on our brand new 37’ Viking Billfish Sportfisher, Tag Team III! !

Catch rates have increased this week, with more dorado numbers showing up, but not in the big sizes like we saw last week. Small to medium size tuna has still found more consistently as well. And this week proved more than ever that Summer may be “slower” but it also has the potential to fulfill some big dreams with a large fish if you’re lucky enough. A few weeks ago I mentioned having to fish a few days to guarantee the best success, well Art Hevener, a Pisces angler for more than 20 years proved just this point. He fished three days with Captain Jose Ramon Alucano (JR) on Pisces 31’ Rebecca and landed an impressive 470 lbs Black Marlin, his dream fish.

This week was again similar to last, in that the fishing was rather slow, but if you were lucky you might catch the ONE. Inconsistency this week meant anglers needed to fish a few days to have the best odds. Even with this, still quite a few catches worth noting! For example, Pisces Tag Team III, caught and released a nice 400 lbs Black Marlin, which I will give you more details on below.

This week has been similar to the last, in the sense that there has been really great days of fishing, then some slowing the next, then BAM! a really fantastic catch shows up. For example, we had a rarely seen short billed spearfish caught this week, along with some big black marlin in the Cabo area in general. A few big bull mahi-mahis caught as well and a beautiful big sailfish, whose size is rarely encountered anywhere else in the world.

Fishing this week has been slow compared to last week’s report. Not in the sense that we haven’t been catching fish, it’s just been harder to come by, with one day being particularly good, followed by the next day being a bit slow and really coming down to sheer luck. Anglers are spotting fish, just not finding hungry ones! On one day the captains’ comments included: “We had three marlin we saw and tried to bait, but they wouldn’t take” or, “Two marlins bit, but we lost them”. On another day anglers were hitting the dock having released 2 or 3 blue marlin or even landing a “Grand Slam” all before midday! All in all, it has been a week of consistent billfish catches, with boats landing just about the full range of billfish sought after in Baja: blue marlin, striped marlin, sailfish and black marlin. The crews and anglers have had to work hard at landing fish, and even coming back with only one billfish caught and released has been a highly rewarding experience. Some nice wahoo showed up, but the dorado and tuna have decreased significantly.

The hottest fishing of the week happened the weekend of the 28th - 29th; I really could have written the report solely on Saturday’s and Sunday’s catches, which were SPECTACULAR. Just on these two days, Pisces boats caught 13 blue marlin, 2 sailfish, 5 striped marlin, 54 yellowfin tuna (one of which was 250 lbs!), 8 dorado, and 1 wahoo.
As for the smaller game fish, sought after closer to shore, we again had a great week, with LARGE roosters (the biggest this week was about 60 lbs), jack crevelle, and plenty of dorado there too. And even with hurricane John close by, which kept us from fishing two days this week, fishing catch rates have still been strong, with a slight lull in the next days after the storm. Things have started to pick up again starting this week though, with good catches this weekend. We are excited to see what next week brings, ‘cause it’s feeling like it will be good one!

Another spectacular week of fishing here in Cabo, with 60 Pisces boats this week catching fish. Catch success rates at 96% have made for great fun, especially when catches have ranged from BIG Mahi, to HUGE tuna and beautiful blue and striped marlin. Other fish in the mix this week have been nice sized roosters, jack crevelle, red snapper, among others.

A nice hot Summer week here in Cabo with sizzling fishing conditions. More tuna, and finally the dorado have shown up! Billfish still found South of Cabo; mainly stripers and quite a few decent sized blues too.

I must admit that this week has been one of our Summer’s best for fishing here in Cabo, and therefore, one of the hardest weeks for me to write this fish report! There have been so many fish caught and of different sizes and species that I wish I could fit it all in, but I’ve had to pick and choose what I consider our best catches… Billfish this week included sailfish, striped marlin and blue marlin, all released. We’ve had more tuna than we can fish and a standout BIG wahoo too.

Summer is officially here. Hot temperatures moving in to Cabo, with tuna numbers officially at a high this week, and dorado numbers steadily increasing. Those looking for marlin are still quite successful, with a maximum of up to four stripers caught per boat. Small game catches have consisted only of a few roosterfish and skipjacks.
